It would help if I could read.

Yesterday I went to Toy'R'Us to finish up our Christmas shopping. It sounds a lot simpler than it is. Toy'R'Us is an hour train ride their and then another hour back plus the insane lines and store packed with Spaniards who should be working. I went at 10am on a Tuesday. Isn't that part of a normal work week? Oh'well. I was happy. Kidless and shopping for Christmas. It's hard to get better than that.
My plan was to get an exersaucer for Joaquin and a desk for Stella. As soon as I saw the size of the exersaucer box I knew I had to change my plans. It was huge. Remember I live in a city and don't have a car. So whatever I buy I have to haul back home. This limits some things. So I settled for a walker because its box was only half the size of the other box but still huge. I'm actually really excited about it. Then I found Stella a princess desk. I also flipped through the ad to see if they had any good deals. I found a couple. The ad said "Ahorra 20Euros" I thought wow what a sweet deal this toy usually cost about $50 and I'm going to get it for 20 euros. I was really excited. When I got home after lugging everything and hiding it I told Drew about my great find. I showed him the ad and he laughed. I'm wasn't sure what was so funny until he explained that Ahora = right now but Ahorra = save. So I bought the toy for 50 euros and not 20. All I have to say is that was some pretty tricky advertising. Ugg. I wish I could read in spanish!

Yes, I have another "I wish I could read story."I was buying groceries today and got really excited when I found a package of chocolate covered cherries. I love these. Especially the kind my grandma makes. They're the best. Anyways, I bought them and couldn't wait to get home and try them. When I did I knew these where nothing like my grandma's. After looking at the package I found out that they are chocolate covered cherries in Liquor. Oops.

I had an "I Wish I could read Moment" the summer we spent in Japan. Stacy, Pippi, and I went to the grocery store in Japan, while I was there, I found a package of string cheese, they even said "chizu" in katakana, which I could read, right on them. There were also a bunch of characters I couldn't read on the package.

When we got back to our apt., I opened the package, handed each child a "cheese stick" and bit into one myself, only to find that it was NOT a cheese stick but a hot dog made of fish with a cheese whiz center.

Wish you were here to help me make chocolate covered cherries. I need to get some made next week. Sure wish I could send you some but will have to wait till next year after you get out of Spain. I made two batches of English toffee yesterday and cherries will be next.

What a way to have to shop, no car to tote the goods back home in. It does limit what you can take home when your by yourself, unless you have another trip you can take. But the 2 hour train ride is long enough. To bad for the chocolate covered cherries. I know they are your favorite, but next year you can get some good ones....
