Summer has begun

Isaac had his last day of school today. He's learned so much this year. Mainly, spanish. I love hearing him play with other kids in spanish. The other day he was asking for "pegatinas." I thought he was making up a word, which he is known to do, but Drew decided to give him some credit and looked it up. It's an actual word. It means stickers. Now it makes me wonder how many words he's said that I thought he just made up.

He's also learned how to sit still. This is a HUGE accomplishment. He can now color within the lines, draw all his basic shapes, draw himself and others, cut straight with scissors and write his name. He knows how to work well with others, even in another language. His teacher has been amazing. It's been great seeing him grow and learn this year. He has really enjoyed school. I'm so glad we decided to have him start.

Now we're ready to start Summer!!! We're going to start by renting a car and going to a party at a new friend's country house. I just met her yesterday at a playgroup but she was so nice and helpful. She has convinced me that I'm going to have a great experience having a baby here in Spain. I have an appointment with her doctor, this is also the princess of Spain's doctor, on Tuesday. He takes patients by referral only. I've never heard of this but luckily she referred me. So I'm really excited to go see him. He's supposed to be the best.

Tomorrow I'm also going to go to lunch and get pedicures with another friend. I'm so excited for this. I haven't had a girl's day since I've been in Spain.

And last but definitely not least, Drew is taking half of next week off. So I think we might try going to the beach or at least finding a couple waterparks to enjoy around here. Either way it should be a lot of fun spending time with Drew.

Hellogoodbye- Here (In Your Arms)

Stella's favorite!!

I Like...

Wow, I really wish I had a camera to get video of how adorable Stella is dancing and singing to her new favorite song. It's Here In Your Arms by Hellogoodbye. It's a super fun energetic summer song. She goes around everywhere singing "I like, I like!" Oh I wish I had video.

Above is the song. I hope you enjoy it as much as Stella!!

Thanks, Ryan and Design Mom!

I'm so glad when daddy comes home...

I think we've had a little streak of bad luck but hopefully its over.

Friday we had a good day. Isaac had a friend over after school and we ordered pizza for dinner. I love to see how little things like ordering pizza can make my kids so happy. The pizza man was laughing at how hysterical they were. Gotta love Pizza hut!

Saturday was a good day too! We slept in a little bit. Mostly because Stella kept us all up Friday night. I don't know why but she didn't want to sleep. After getting ready the kids played toys, puzzles, dress up anything they could find while I finished last minute stuff for a church activity. They were great. We also made Dad some cool father's day cards.

This is where the bad luck started. We went to leave the house for the activity and I put my key in the door and it wouldn't turn. I couldn't figure out why. We just had our locks changed so I figured maybe I grabbed an old key but I needed to go so I figured somehow when we came home we could get it to work or figure it out. So we left for the activity.

It went really well. We had the perfect amount of food and the youth loved the 50's theme. They totally got into the grease soundtrack. Who knew spanish youth knew how to swing dance and jive. A couple of them even dressed up. I love my calling!

Anyways, when we got home we still had no luck. The door wouldn't budge. I really didn't want to call a locksmith and spend $100 so they could slip a thin piece of plastic up my door. (we've done this before) Plus my phone needed to be recharged and was out of minutes so calling was impossible anyways. Drew was coming home from London in a few hours so I figured we could go to the movies and watch Shrek. It sounded like a good idea and by the time the movie ended we could meet Drew at the apartment and all be happy to see daddy before bed. If only things were this easy.

We headed out for the movie after a little convincing (Isaac's not a big fan of going to the movies, I think the big screen makes everything a little to real) and a promise of ice cream at the theatre. So far so good, right. Well when we came up from the subway it was pouring rain. No umbrella and no stroller I wasn't about to let a little rain or a lot stop us from getting to the movie. So we decided it would be fun and we could jump in the puddles and make the most of it. Luckily the kids both had jackets because it only took about 2 minutes until we were drenched. So soaking wet but happy and excited for the movie we finally got to the theatre. I went to buy tickets only to find out that Shrek doesn't come out until June 22. We were a few days short of this.

So plan B went into action. Meet Drew at the airport or wait in our hallway for the next few hours. The kids chose to meet Dad at the airport. On the way walking back to the subway in the pouring rain I started to wonder if this was such a good idea. We didn't know what airline, what terminal or even when Drew's flight was coming in. I knew it had been delayed because of the rain but that was all. I still had no phone to call and ask or at least warn him to look for us.

So we went to plan C. Isaac was hungry and wet and tired. It's about 10:30pm by this time. So we came back up from the subway and found a McDonald's. I love McDonalds. Defiantly not for the food but for the fact that its American and comforting to me and my kids. And this McDonald's had a playland. I was so happy! We could get some food and ice cream and the kids could play and not get rained on. Things were looking up. We spent a good hour in the playland and then decided to go home and meet Drew. His key had to work.

Nope. After McDonalds, we took a cab home. It was late and still raining. After about 15 minutes of waiting in our lobby we heard the keys and Daddy was home. I was so excited. Up to this point the kids were fabulous. We had all been positive and happy. We also thought that Dad's key would work and we could finally got to bed. It was 12:30am. But yet again I was wrong. Dad's key had the same problem mine had. He immediately pulled out the blackberry (I was actually really glad he had a blackberry for once!) and called a locksmith. 30 minutes later we were in! I was so thankful for Drew. So that's how his Father's Day started. We love you Daddy!!!

So much has happened in the past week...

Its so hard to blog when I can't include pictures! We really need to buy a new camera.

Anyways, Here's a quick overview of the past week or so.

Stella turned 2!!! I'm so bummed I don't have a picture of this. Oh'well. It was a simple birthday due to the fact that she's 2 and only has a handful of friends. But we did make a yummy Candyland cake and she sang Happy Birthday to herself all day in english and spanish. We also bought her a bike! This was a huge hit! She loved it.

A few days later we went for a walk and when we came home things were a little out of place. We started to look around and realied we had been Robbed! Luckily, it was a quick job and they just wanted money and jewelery. We had out 2 laptops and our ipods but they didn't take those. Thank you robbers. They did take our camera that just broke. I can't wait until they figure that out. The bonus is we can claim our camera as being stolen. So that will be covered under our insurance.
The next day we hosted a fun dinner party with the lawyers in Drew's office and the summer associates. I love having dinner parties! Yummy food, friends and dessert. What's not to love!

Now I'm planning a "50's" style party for a church activity on Saturday. Hopefully this turns out. Being in Spain you never know what will work and what won't. But I'm having fun! Drew's off to London today for the weekend and when he gets back it's Father's Day! (at least in the US) So we have a couple fun things planned. I can't wait to give him his present! I hate having to wait. It's killing me.

So that's a quick overview of our week. Hope you have a great weekend!!

kinda funny...

So I just called one of the sister's in our ward who had a baby a few weeks ago to ask her if I could bring dinner over. At least this is what my intentions were. After a really confusing spanish conversation I hung up the phone with her thinking I had just invited myself over for dinner tonight. Oops! Obviously this is not a normal thing to do in Spain. If I would have only known. I quickly called Drew and asked him to call and clear things up.

How do I screw up the easiest things sometimes?

What was I thinking?

So I have about 3 months left with this pregnancy and I'm starting to get really nervous about having a baby in a foreign country. Spain is really modern but everything I've been reading lately scares me. I was really excited to try a midwife and plan a natural birth this time. No, I'm not totally crazy. I just figure that if this baby comes anywhere near as fast as Stella I better be prepared for no epidural. Stella was born in under an hour after we got to the hospital. And my recovery was amazing with her. So I really wanted to plan on not having an epidural and a few other things. (I won't get graphic. It grosses me out too.)

The problem is Spaniards are very set in their ways. They really want to give you an epidural as soon as you get to the hospital. They don't want you walking around. They don't want to see a birthing plan. They want to schedule induction especially in August and September. The c-section rate is 43%. That's really high! And I can't find an english speaking midwife. And if I google spanish birth stories or anything like that I get horror stories.

Drew is totally fine with me going to the States and having the baby but that's just weird. Leave Drew and have him possibly miss the birth. I don't think so. What was I thinking when we decided to have a baby in Spain. I'm really excited for the baby just scared to death to "dar la luz".

Any suggestions or good birthing books would be helpful.

things are looking up

Something strange has changed this week. I have a husband!! Okay, I've had a husband but we've actually seen him and spent time with him this week.

It all started with Drew calling me Monday night and asking if I wanted to go to dinner with him and the other lawyers and summer's. Of course I wanted to. Free dinner and a night with my husband. What's not to love. Then on Tuesday he walked in the door at 9:00pm. You might not think this is very early but trust me it is. I thought somebody was breaking in. This is how surprised I was. So we were able to play with Drew for a good hour before we put the kids to bed. Then Wednesday he met us at Burger King for lunch and came home after for a quick playdate with the kids. He also came home at 7:30pm from work and didn't have to go back. So weird but fabulous!

Now I'm wondering what it would be like with a husband that worked a 9 to 5 job. Not really I'm so glad Drew has the job he has and the time we have with him is so special. I think I would take him for granted. But when we do get the time I'm all for taking it!

sk*rt

I just wanted to share a fun new site. My friend, design mom, has started it along with a few other bloggers. It's a girly internet filter. I checked it out yesterday and found a cool new recipe website. (It looks really delicous!) and a great new modern furniture store. (they have really cool bedding and furniture - a little pricey but a girl can dream, right?)

Another good reason to check it out is for the giveaways. They just launched the site so they have a lot of fun stuff to giveaway to promote it!
I hope you enjoy it!!!

Lovable, Furry Old Grover

Tonight we gathered a bunch of books together and popped popcorn and read. It was so nice having the kids cuddle up and laugh at the books. It's so cute to see Stella make all the sounds from different animals and to hear Isaac read Brown Bear, Brown Bear to Stella. I really love how they both love one of my favorite books, The Monster at the End of this Book. We read it a few times. Books are so classic.

One thing I really miss about the States is going to the library. The kids used to love to go and pick new books each week. Or go to Storytime and listen to books being read aloud. We have a library here but the hours are really weird. The kids section is only open from 8:30pm to 11:00pm. Its a little hard for me to take the kids to the library so late but I think we'll do it one night and see how it goes.

What are your favorite kids books?
