Being a little kid is hard

As I was cuddling with Isaac before he went to bed tonight he said, "Mom, Niko doesn't want to be my friend anymore." (Niko is Isaac's best friend here in Spain.) I asked him why and he said he didn't know. Then he told me they were talking about school and disagreed and now they aren't talking to each other. I asked if he was mad at Niko and he said "No, I love Niko." So I told him Niko would probably forgive him tomorrow. He said Niko was really mad and won't forgive him. Then he asked me what he should do. I told him to pray about it and to forgive Niko and ask for his forgiveness tomorrow.

It was so sad to see him so worried about his little friendship. I know tomorrow they'll be best friends again and probably won't even remember they were mad at each other but it made me aware of how sensitive my little guy is. And how much he cherishes his friendships. He still remembers all his friends from the City and Westchester and asks about them. He's really excited to see all his friends and play with them! I love that he shared his problem with me. I hope he always feels like he can trust me.

It's supposed to be a secret, but those glasses aren't fooling anyone

The original Superman was showing tonight on our cable movie channel. Both of the kids really wanted to watch it, which wasn't a surprise as far as Isaac was concerned. But it was amazing how Stella was totally into it. She was exhausted since she didn't get a proper nap today, but she refused to go to bed. Instead she cuddled into mommy and fixed her eyes on the screen all the way to the end.

When it was over, Isaac informed us that Stella was Lois Lane. It was silly of us to even ask who was Superman. Isn't it obvious?

Other news of note: Eryka's Young Women (she's the Young Women's President, in case you didn't know) had their "New Beginnings" program this evening. It went off really well. Our Bishop was very impressed. He's from the states, and he has been here for 15 years and he said he hadn't seen anything like that in the whole time he's been here. That was an excellent complement for Eryka. Fact is, he's just thrilled to have another American family in the ward.

Little things that matter

I've been a little busy these past few weeks, pulling some extra-late-nighters, with Saturdays thrown in for fun. Even when I'm not at work until really late, it still isn't very often that I get home before the kids go to bed, because official office hours are 9:30 to 7:30 with the 2 hour siesta in the middle. What often happens, even if I get most of my work done early, I end up leaving the office around 8:30 or 9:00. That means the kids are in bed already by the time I get home. I usually get a few good hours with them in the morning, but when I get really busy, I miss seeing them before they go to bed. That's why it's super-fun when I come home before the kids go to bed. They really get a kick out of it. As you can see, I do too.

this is one scale you won't mind getting on

Last night I had a doctor's appointment and I discovered one of my top ten things about living in Europe. I stepped on the scale and it was half of what I normally weigh. I was a little confused and then I remembered its in kilo's here. I think everyone should buy a scale in kilos! Its a quick YEAH!!

turkey bone wishes

Tonight Isaac and Stella finally broke our Christmas turkey bone. Isaac won and immediately told me his wish. Don't worry it will still come true! He wished for our family to be together forever. I thought it was really cute. How sweet that of everything he could wish for that was the first thing that popped into his head. I love him.

Hello terrible 2's!!

I'm not sure I'm ready for this but I guess I don't have a choice. We had a good breakfast, Stella slept as long as she wanted, she played with Isaac before we took him to school but as soon as we got on the bus to come home she went nuts! I have no idea what triggered it but she had a full blown temper tantrum on the bus, on the walk home and is still going at it 25 minutes after we've been home. Wow, she's so mad about something. I just wish I knew what.

Potty Training

Stella really wanted to start potty training this week. I'm really excited that she wants to but a little nervous about the mess.

Tuesday she brought me a pair of her new underwear and insisted that we put them on without her diaper. I was really reluctant because the same day Isaac was really sick and vomitting every 15 minutes. So I didn't want any extra bodily fluid that day. But she insisted. So we tried. She was actually really good. She only had 2 accidents. The last one wasn't even her fault she was trying to get my attention but I was busy helping Isaac.

Wednesday was a good day too. I was really shocked. She only had 1 accident. She really likes being a big girl.

Then today we even ventured out without a diaper to get Isaac from school. She went all day with out a drop of an accident until 7pm. And then the flood gates opened. She had 3 huge accidents within 30 minutes. I have no idea where all that liquid came from but it got all over! So I've just finished mopping up her messes and I think both kids are down!! Now I really need to work on New Beginings stuff that Nuevos Comienzos in espanol! Good night.

Dad's are the best!

Drew is an awesome Dad! The kids love him so much. They love to run over to the door with their arms stretched out ready to bear hug daddy whenever he walks in the door. Today we were walking by Drew's office and both kids ran in the lobby hoping to go say hi to daddy. Unfortunatly, we didn't stop to say hi but they jump at any chance. And Isaac always expects "good boy nuts" from daddy when he gets home from work. And in case daddy forgets we have an extra container in the pantry. We LOVE YOU DADDY and appreciate your hard work! Your awesome!

A small miracle took place today

Have you ever felt like the only reason you go to church is to be an example to your kids because you get nothing from the meetings? This is how we've felt lately.

So this week I was looking at www.lds.org for a copy of my lesson in English and on the main page was a link to an article on enjoying sacrament with children. So I gladly clicked away. (There's a link to the article at the end of the post) It was so simple it said all we have to do is be a good example. I was skeptical but I sent the link to Drew and we tried it.

Before church I casually mentioned to Isaac that we need to be reverent and think of Jesus during sacrament meeting. Then we walked in reverently and the magic started. Isaac sat down and folded his arms and Stella followed. They were both reverent during the song. Isaac even tried to sing along. Then the opening prayer and announcement and still no problems. Another song and then the sacrament and they were both excellent! I was amazed. After I gave Isaac a pad of paper and a pen and he kept himself busy while sitting reverently on the bench. He even asked why everybody kept saying "amen" without a prayer. So we explained that they were bearing their testimonies and after everyone says amen. He then wanted me to go bear my testimony but I have huge language problems so I said I would another time. But it worked! We made it through an entire sacrament meeting without any issues. Now I need to learn Spanish so I can get more out of the meeting. But it was a huge success.

little girls are so CUTE!!

Stella will sit still for two things. And only two things. #1 to get her hair done in the morning - she loves to look pretty!! #2 to get her finger or toe nails painted!! She loves it.

We went to Corte Ingles today to try and find chap stick. (I really needed it and have had the hardest time trying to find it) While we were looking we passed the fingernail paint and Stella went nuts. "Peas! Peas! Peas!" - Stella's version of please. So we picked a pretty pink color and after naps had a little pedicure party. Isaac joined us but said the painting was for the girls. It was a lot of fun. I love little girls with painted toenails. Here are a few blurry pictures. Like I said she only stays still for two things and pictures is not one of them.

Christmas Break

I love Christmas Break! Isaac started school this year and I've really missed having him around. I think Stella does too! He's so much fun and has SO much energy. I really wish I had a portion of it. We've really enjoyed having some extra time together.

Today we just hung out and played swords, Power Rangers and Grocery man. Its so fun to see how Isaac and Stella play together. And to see how creative they both can be.

Tonight at dinner Isaac asked for more sword. (swords are aspargus in our house) Then he told Stella if you eat them all gone you'll get really big muscles. That didn't encourage her to eat any but she still likes to show off her muscles with her brother.

I love being a mom. My kids are the best! There just so cute and fun. I can't believe how fast they grow up. I know everybody says it but lately I've felt it. Now I really sound like a mom. I must be getting old. I better go to sleep. Good Night!

The quiz told me I'm Superman, but my results corresponded equally with Spiderman, and I'd rather be Spidey, cause he's way cooler, and I'm more of a Marvel guy, than a D.C. guy anyway. Besides, can I really trust a website to tell me what Superhero I am?
